UP AND JUMPING
This newsletter is aimed at giving parents more information about what their daughters are doing while in the Sheffield Centre. Coaches Sawula and Cooper are hoping that this might assist our parents to better understand what is going on in the program.
Our goals and vision is to prepare our athletes for going further and higher in international volleyball than the UK has ever been before. To do this will require immense sacrifices, unbelievable dedication and exceptional improvement in technical, mental, physical and tactical aspects of volleyball.
We are operating a Full Time Centre where we are trying to allow our athletes to have a chance to work, to go to study and attend school or university and still make the sport improvements that are needed for us to grow. It will affect athletes in their own way. Some will have to understand that becoming a ‘professional’ athlete is more than how much they get paid to do volleyball. In fact, it is a ‘state of mind’ where they have to learn how time, work, the sciences, mental toughness, injuries, and skill execution create trials and tribulations allowing them to experience differing highs and lows which will allow them to become stronger in current and later life. Goals will become part of daily living and our athletes will learn what being ‘responsible’ and ‘accountable’ is all about. They will make very close friends and teammates with the athletes that they bond with during our journey but nothing can take away how their family can help to support them through these experiences. They will need your help spiritually, morally, and, probably, financially during the next five years. Although the BVF will be trying to support athletes in many ways, it never will be enough. As coaches, we will try our best to make it an experience that is both, a ‘process’ and a ‘journey’, which they will look back on as having been a very special part of their life.
